A Culinary Evening

Amanda Hesser & Julie Powell

Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 6pm

Coinciding with Restaurant Week in Easton, two of America’s most prominent food writers, Amanda Hesser and Julie Powell, will read from their recent publications, answer questions and sign books in a culinary evening.
Julie Powell thrust herself from obscurity (and an uninspiring temp job) to cyber-celebrityhood when, in 2002, she embarked on an ambitious cooking (and blogging) expedition through all 524 recipes in Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Amanda Hesser reported on this yearlong performance of culinary art in her New York Times food column and Powell garnered international attention.
She detailed the experience in her critically acclaimed 2005 bestselling memoir, Julie & Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously, which was adapted into a major motion picture starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams in August 2009.

Energy-Wise Landscape Design

March 4  1-2:30 pm

Residential consumption represents nearly a quarter of North America’s total energy use, with the average homeowner spending thousands of dollars a year on power.
Join landscape architect Sue Reed as she demonstrates—in her own design projects and many others across New England—the principles of designing landscapes to save on home heating and cooling costs. This talk also shows how to minimize fuel used in landscape construction, maintenance, and everyday living, and how to choose materials with lower embedded energy costs.
