The unlikeliest of hit musicals

"Spelling Bee"

Church Hill Theatre

It's "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" and it's now playing thru October 2.
With music and lyrics by William Finn and a book by Rachel Sheinkin, "Spelling Bee" chronicles the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime.
The show’s Tony Award-winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.
It’s a jolly good time as audience members are invited up to the stage to participate as contestants!

Learn about oysters from children's books with Olly the Oyster!

Book Signing
by Children's Book Author
Elaine Allen

September 3, 2011
2pm to 4pm

Elaine Allen is the author of  "Olly the Oyster" and "Olly's Treasure." Olly the Oyster works hard every day cleaning the water in the Chesapeake Bay. Here are just a few great things about Olly and his oyster friends:
  • Oysters are great for the environment.
  • Oysters filter and clean the water just by breathing.
  • A single oyster can filter 60 gallons of water a day!
  • Oysters live together in groups called oyster reefs.
  • Oyster reefs provide homes for many other sea animals like crabs, worms, and small fish.
